Many patients are uncomfortable with how these forehead crease lines impact their overall appearance. But you have options for restoring a rejuvenated appearance. One popular procedure is a brow lift, also called a forehead lift.
Inevitably, lines and wrinkles form across the forehead. These lines are caused by:
  • Natural aging
  • Pregnancy
  • Stress
  • Diet
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Genetics
  • Significant weight fluctuations
Dr. Gabbay combines a high level of surgical experience and a commitment to help you reach your goals.

What Is a Brow Lift About?

A brow lift targets the forehead area, restoring a youthful appearance to it. Patients choose to have a brow lift for several reasons, including:
  • Addressing age-related changes to the upper part of the face
  • Treating congenital or acquired brow ptosis (sagging, drooping)
  • Repairing damage from sun exposure
In most cases, a brow lift aims to improve the cosmetic appearance of the upper face and brow. When performed correctly, it can lend you a younger, rejuvenated appearance.

The Latest Techniques for Natural, Beautiful Results

A brow lift today is a very different procedure than it was in the past. Older techniques required long incisions, often resulting in hair loss and permanent numbness. Occasionally, these earlier brow lift surgeries left patients with unnatural results. Such outcomes were described as a “perpetually surprised look.” Thanks to modern surgical advances, Dr. Gabbay can now offer patients improved brow lifts with natural-looking results.

Am I a Brow Lift Candidate?

Good candidates for a brow lift include men and women seeking to address the following:
  • Deep horizontal forehead creases
  • An angry or tired appearance resulting from sagging eyebrows
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows and the top of the nose
A brow lift is commonly performed on patients between 40 and 60 years of age. However, the procedure can also help younger adults who have developed premature furrows or frown lines. A brow lift is also best for patients who are in good health and are non-smoking.

Consultation

A personal consultation with Dr. Gabbay is the first step to see if you are a candidate. When you come in for a consultation, you are taking charge of your appearance and your future. Each personal meeting involves:
  • Assessing your physical health
  • Checking your emotional wellbeing
  • Discussing your goals and expectations
  • Addressing questions or concerns
  • Checking past and present medical conditions
  • Notifying him of current medications
After your full evaluation, Dr. Gabbay will discuss whether a brow lift is an appropriate choice for you. Even if it is not, he will suggest additional or alternative procedures. Our goal is to ensure that your aesthetic needs are fulfilled.
Some patients choose to combine their brow lift with eyelid surgery to address the drooping of their upper eyelids. Others combine their brow lift with a full facelift to achieve a complete facial rejuvenation.

The Brow Lift Procedure

A brow lift can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. The choice depends on what would make you more comfortable. Dr. Gabbay will discuss both options with you during your consultation. As a forehead lift is usually performed in an outpatient medical facility, you can go home the same day.
The time it takes to complete your procedure will vary. Total duration depends upon your specific surgical details and whether you are having another procedure performed in conjunction. In general, a brow lift surgery generally takes 1-2 hours.

Coronal Incision Technique

Coronal Incision brow lift is a common technique with an incision concealed within your hairline. The incision begins above your ears and continues along the top of your scalp. Dr. Gabbay then restructures or removes excess skin and parts of the muscles. He then lifts your eyebrows to a more youthful position.

Conventional Forehead Lift

An inconspicuous incision is made across the forehead region to remove excess tissue before Dr. Gabbay adjusts muscles to lift your eyebrows. He then trims excess skin before your incision is sutured. Sterile gauze will be applied after the wound is closed.

Limited-Incision Forehead Lift

Some limited-incision brow lift techniques can be performed without the use of an endoscope. Dr. Gabbay makes small temple incisions to adjust sagging eyebrows and upper-eyelid incisions to improve frown lines. The limited incision technique involves a shorter incision (only 1-3 inches) within the hair-bearing area or just at the hairline. The recovery can be quicker than a conventional coronal brow lift.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Endoscopic Brow Lift is a limited-incision technique that uses a thin tube with a light on the end attached to a video camera for viewing purposes. Rather than using a long incision, the endoscope is inserted through several small incisions in your scalp. The result is minimal scarring and a shortened recovery period.

Brow Lift Recovery & Downtime

When your brow lift surgery is complete, we take you directly to the recovery area. You should experience minimal discomfort after a forehead lift surgery. However, if you do have any pain, this can be controlled with medication as needed. The majority of patients return home the same day. Once home, you can begin resting and recovering.

The Recovery Timeline

The First Day:
  • Keep your head elevated to minimize any bruising and swelling.
The First Week:
  • Bandages and drains will be removed.
  • Bathing and showering will be permitted.
  • Swelling in the cheek and eyelid area will reach its peak and then begin to subside.
  • Light activity will be allowed.
  • Sleeping with your head elevated will continue to aid in the reduction of swelling.
Within Two Weeks:
  • Most bruising will subside.
  • Your stitches will be removed.
  • You will be able to apply makeup to hide bruising and discoloration.
  • Normal activities and non-strenuous work will be permitted.
After Three Weeks:
  • Swelling will continue to subside.
  • Numbness and itching will diminish greatly.
  • Exercise may be resumed.
It is important to follow Dr. Gabbay’s advice when resuming activities following a brow lift. For most patients, the recovery time will not exceed two weeks. Still, you may be advised to avoid strenuous activities for an additional time.
