Factors To Consider For Enlargement
There are many factors to think about when considering breast
augmentation surgery, including:
IMPLANT SIZE
IMPLANT PROFILE
INCISION PATTERN
Periareolar: Around the lower half of the areola
Transaxillary: In the underarm
Transumbilical, or TUBA: In the navel area
IMPLANT PLACEMENT
Submuscular placement rests under the chest muscle. Submammary or Subglandular placements rest between the chest muscle and breast tissue.
IMPLANT TYPE
Is Surgery Right For You?
- Increase breast size
- Correct asymmetrical
- Enhance lost volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Augment size after significant weight loss
- Correct imbalanced body proportions
- With breast reconstruction surgery after mastectomy or injuries to the chest area.
- In conjunction with breast revision surgery after complications from a previous surgery
- Along with a breast lift, to add volume and fullness while correcting sagging

TEXTURE
Some implants are encased in a solid silicone rubber outer shell (lumen) that may either be smooth or textured.
SHAPE
Implants can be round or anatomical (tear-drop). Tear-drop implants create a natural sloped shape when placed over the chest muscle. They provide the closest resemblance to a natural breast shape. Tear-drop implants must be positioned precisely to prevent implant rotation. This is why they are only offered as textured implants, to minimize movement.
Round implants create fuller breasts with a higher lift and a more significant amount of cleavage. Round implants are offered in both smooth and textured choices. If the round implant moves inside the breast pocket, it will not change shape.
COMPOSITION
PROFILE
The profile of a breast implant determines how far the implant will protrude from the chest wall. We offer implants in four different profiles:
- Low
- Moderate
- Moderate plus
- High
The higher the implant profile, the more they will project from the chest. In general, high-profile implants are best suited for women with narrow chests. Low profile implants are better choices for women with wider frames.
SIZE
Implant size refers to volume and is not measured by bra cup size (A, B, C, D, etc.). Instead, it goes by cubic centimeters (cc). Breast implant sizes for both saline and silicone implants range from 120-850cc.
Placement
SUB-GLANDULAR (OVER-THE-MUSCLE)
For this technique, Dr. Gabbay places the implant directly behind the mammary gland. Also, the doctor puts it under the fatty breast tissue in front of the pectoral muscles. The sub-glandular option typically provides more projection. This is suitable for women who have a sufficient amount of natural tissue to cover the edges of the implant.
SUB-FACIAL
Dr. Gabbay places the implant beneath the fascia of the pectoralis major muscle.
SUB-PECTORAL/SUB-MUSCULAR (UNDER-THE-MUSCLE)
Dr. Gabbay places the implant underneath the pectoral muscle. This option is better for women who do not have sufficient natural breast tissue to cover the edges of the implant.
Details Of The Procedure
MARK FOR SURGERY
ADMINISTER ANESTHESIA
Dr. Gabbay will administer anesthesia will and prepare you for surgery. However, in some cases, you may elect for “twilight” sedation through an IV.
SURGERY
Dr. Gabbay will make an incision and creates a pocket for the implant. He then inserts the implants into position. After insertion, Dr. Gabbay checks for symmetry and proper placement.
CLOSE INCISIONS
After Dr. Gabbay is satisfied with the placement and symmetry of your breasts, he will perform a multiple-layer suturing procedure. First, he closes the deeper tissue, and then the surface incision itself. A surgical bra and compression band will be applied over the top of the breasts. This will stay on for 1-4 weeks to help the implants settle properly into their new pockets.
REST IN RECOVERY ROOM
Augmentation surgery generally takes 1-2 hours (depending on the complexity of your procedure or combination of methods). You will spend the first few hours after surgery in the recovery room. When you are fully alert, you will be released to a family member or friend who will drive you home. We suggest that you arrange to have someone help you for at least the first few days after surgery*.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Because Dr. Gabbay uses state-of-the-art techniques for breast augmentation surgery, discomfort is at a minimum. Any pain can typically be managed with medication. Most patients find any significant discomfort passes within a few days.
Shortly after surgery, you can remove your surgical bra and dressings to shower. However, you may need to wear the supportive bra for several weeks.
After your surgery, you will notice more tenderness and fullness around the chest region. And it takes time for your body to adjust to the implants. We advise sleeping with your head and back elevated to reduce the swelling in your chest region.
Dr. Gabbay will provide you with complete instructions for recovery and optimizing results. You will have a follow-up appointment one to three days after your surgery. And we are always available for additional questions. Every step of the way, we are here to ensure your recovery goes smoothly and you achieve the results you desire!
Most patients resume light activities shortly after surgery (within several days to one week). You may continue light exercise within one to two weeks. Avoid lifting heavy objects and strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks. These activities can slow the healing process.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does breast augmentation cost?
The cost of breast augmentation varies, depending on size, implant type, and procedure complexity. We build every procedure from the ground up for our patients during the consultation. At the end of the meeting, Dr. Gabbay provides a personalized quote that factors in each procedure element. The quote requires no commitment, so you can take your time to evaluate if it works for you. We also provide multiple financing options, making the procedure accessible to a wider range of patients.
When will I see my results?
Most patients have enough swelling fade by the second week to begin enjoying their results. However, residual swelling will take a few months to resolve. While this swelling may not be very noticeable, it can influence how the implants sit in the breasts. As it fades, your breasts will settle into their final results.
How long do breast augmentation results last?
With proper care and a healthy lifestyle, breast augmentation results can last up to 20 years. Different implants have different longevity. For example, silicon implants tend to last longer than saline, but each type has unique advantages. Eventually, patients will need to replace them to avoid issues like deflation or damage to the implants. When replacing implants, you can usually adjust the size or change the type to ensure you love your breasts all the more.
Will breast augmentation leave a scar?
The incisions for breast augmentation will heal as scars. However, keep in mind these will fade over time. Nonsurgical treatments like laser therapy can also further improve scarring in some patients. Additionally, Dr. Gabbay always places incisions where they will be most inconspicuous, typically under the breast fold. Some implants require smaller incisions than others, which means even less notable scarring. Good aftercare following your procedure will help the incisions heal and keep scarring to a minimum.
What implant size is right for me?
The right implant size will depend on your goals and what looks most balanced with your body. As a general rule, patients can increase their cup size by one for each 200cc of implant size. A cup size increase of two tends to be the most popular among patients (400 cc implant). If you want a greater increase, we will need to evaluate for factors like skin elasticity. Increasing size too quickly could lead to risks like stretched skin. Dr. Gabbay walks each patient through their options during the consultation, ensuring they are matched with a size that suits their goals while still optimizing safety.
Is it safe?
While any procedure involves some risk, Dr. Gabbay maximizes patient safety through attentive care at every stage. Starting with the consultation, he looks at every facet to identify risk factors and look for ways to mitigate them. He never recommends moving forward with a procedure if he assesses the risk to be too high. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, he uses his extensive experience to enhance safety while still delivering stunning results.
